Use Characteristic Filter for Empty (Missed) Requirements
If you have balloons on the drawing but have not entered structured information, you can easily find out which ones are not complete.
- Click the filter icon to the left of the Bill of Characteristics (BoC) and select Incomplete
- Only the items that do not have structured data display.
- Enter the data for each missing item and as you do so, the list of incomplete reduces.
- When complete, click the filter icon and select Complete and the BoC refreshes with the completed data and now you are ready to Export to Excel.

Contact suppport@discussoftware.com to obtain a very powerful template that colors the cell of the result red for failing or green for passing. Just allow the macros and press CTRL and M and the data populates. Don’t have results? No problem. If you enter the values in the cell, the data will color code the status of the entry.

Bob Morris from Renaissance Services presented a joint paper with Rod Tegeler from Raytheon Missile Systems on the topic “The Intelligent Technical Data Package: Essential to Success in the Extended Enterprise for TOW Missile”. The presentation covered the use of the Bill of Characteristics as a means of definitive collaboration in the TOW supply chain. The paper was selected for presentation at the 2011 Defense Manufacturing Conference held in Anaheim, California on Nov 29 to Dec 1.
